Kent, WA dance-studio, “N the Kutt” is taking a shot at reality tv with their new 5 episode docudrama “Making the Kutt”. Readers may remember our 2019 article about the studio and its award-winning dance team, who
had just pulled off a spectacular performance at Seattle’s Bubblin’ Brown Suga all-city dance competition.
During our last article, we met Koach T, and learned about his roots in Chickasha, Oklahoma, his move to the Northwest in 1999, and the lasting impact he had on Renton High School’s dance team.
Making the Kutt is a 5-episode series, airing weekly on YouTube and other digital platforms. The project is being produced by the Rush Project, and longtime staffer, Koach Giggz, who can also be seen in front of the camera, each Thursday at 8pm. According to Koach T, the goal is “to let the world in on the culture of inner city dance in Seattle. KuttNUp is a great representation of dance in our city, and we’re excited to let people see it, support it, and elevate it.” KuttNUp, of course, is the celebrated dance troop previously mentioned, originally
founded in 2004 and featuring a rotating roster of dancers; each version builds on the foundation of the last, while adding new ingredients to take things to the next level.
Making the Kutt follows 4 main characters, Simya, Malay, Jada, and Micah, as they prepare to meet other top dance teams on Halloween weekend for the annual KuttNUp Massacre Competition. The theme of this year’s tournament is the Wiz (Diana Ross/Michael Jackson).
The series is raw and uncut, and emotions fly as these young ladies push harder than they ever have before, giving all they have to meet the rigorous demands of Koach T and the KuttNUp Koaches. Do they have what it takes to make it through the competition? Will they Ease on Down the Road to success? Or Kutt and Run? Tune in Thursdays at 8pm to find out!
